South African Food retailers asked to remove Israeli goods

SA food retailers have been asked to remove Israeli goods from their shelves, the Workers International Vanguard League said on Wednesday.
"The request is made as a matter of urgency especially in the light of the current genocidal actions by the Israeli army in Gaza," the league said.
According to the league, it had written to the CEOs of Pick n Pay, Woolworths, Spar and Shoprite-Checkers, asking that no Israeli products be sold in their stores.
"It’s mainly out-of-season fruit from Israel that the food retailers sell," said the league’s spokesperson Shaheed Mahomed.
This included naartjies, avocados, oranges and tomatoes, he added.
Spar told Sapa that it always worked according to government policy as far as trade was concerned.
Woolworths confirmed receipt of the letter from the league.
